Read the logic from the bottom up: if we do the activities, then we get the outputs, provided the assumptions hold, and so on up to the goal. The assumptions column is where weak plans give themselves away, so don't leave it blank.
New to this? What a logframe is and what each row means
A logframe (logical framework) is a one-page plan that lines up what you want to achieve against how you'll measure it and what has to be true for it to work. Plain English below.
- Fill the objectives from the top down: goal, outcome, outputs, then the activities beneath them.
- For each one, name an indicator, a means of verification, and the assumptions that have to hold.
- Read the logic from the bottom up: if we do the activities, then we get the outputs, provided the assumptions hold, up to the goal.
- Read the robustness check, which flags missing measures and unstated assumptions, then download the one-pager.
- Logframe
- A logical framework: a single grid that connects your goal, outcomes, outputs and activities to how each is measured and what it depends on. It exposes weak plans quickly.
- Goal / Outcome / Output / Activity
- Goal = the big ambition you contribute to. Outcome = the change you're directly responsible for. Output = what you deliver. Activity = the work you do to deliver it.
- Indicator
- The specific measure that shows whether an objective was met, such as a number, a percentage or a milestone. Without one, you can't tell if it worked.
- Means of verification
- Where you'll actually get the evidence for an indicator: the report, record or source you'd check to prove the number.
- Assumption
- Something outside your control that has to stay true for the plan to hold. This column is where weak plans give themselves away, so don't leave it blank.
Robustness read
A plan is only as robust as its weakest unstated assumption.
Measurable
·
objectives with an indicator
Verifiable
·
with a source to check it
Risk-aware
·
with a named assumption
Where the thinking is thin
The HTML file opens in any browser and prints cleanly to PDF. Want it built and reconciled on your real numbers? A Commercial Assessment applies the same discipline, and the APG Platform keeps every assumption and indicator honest against the accounts.
A thinking aid, not a guarantee. A logframe is only as good as the honesty of its assumptions and the willingness to revisit them when reality moves. Filled in once and filed, it's just a tidier static plan. Nothing here is saved or sent anywhere; use the download to keep your work. Not financial advice.
Finding a killer assumption before you spend is one of the most valuable things planning can do.
The logframe is the same closed-loop discipline that turns strategy into realised value: every objective measured, verified and honest about what it depends on. A Commercial Assessment is where it meets your real numbers.
